Learning Styles Questionnaire

A learning styles questionnaire will help you understand the unique way in which you learn. We all process information differently. For some of us, we may need to hear a lecture to learn, while others rely on videos, film and other visual aids to help the information sink in. There isn't a right or a wrong way to learn and none of the four learning styles is better than the other. The only thing that matters is that you find out which category you fall into with a learning styles questionnaire.

A learning styles questionnaire will tell you which of the categories you are in- whether it's visual/verbal, visual/non verbal, tactile/kinesthetic or auditory/verbal. There are vast differences between each of the four learning styles and each one comes with its own set of tips and suggestions to improve your comprehension.

When you take a learning styles questionnaire, there could be anywhere from 20-100 questions to answer. Based on your results, you will be given a description of the visual/verbal, visual/non verbal, tactile/kinesthetic or the auditor/verbal learning styles and you'll be provided with some ideas on how you can improve your learning and studying techniques.

A learning styles questionnaire is usually free and can be found in a variety of places. The first place you should look for a questionnaire is at your school or university. Many schools administer these tests on their own and without any prompting from you. But, if yours hasn't, ask them if they have any questionnaires, tests or quizzes you could take that would help you determine your learning style. Talk with your school counselor when you get the results of your quiz and have them go into a further explanation of what they mean. Make sure to ask any questions you might have about your particular learning style.

If the learning styles questionnaire tells you that you are a visual/verbal learner, this means that you need to be presented both visually and in written language format to effectively learn. When you are taking notes, try writing things out in a bullet point form to help keep your attention and aid in the absorption of information. You also might want to try "color coding" your notes and study sheets with highlighters.

If the learning styles questionnaire tells you that you are a visual/non verbal learner, this means that you like to see what you are learning in a visual aid format. Charts, diagrams, videos, films, maps and other visual aids work best for you. Make sure you study in a quiet room without distractions and keep away from study groups if you do not find them beneficial. Try making flashcards and drawing symbols to help you study.

If the learning styles questionnaire tells you that you are a tactile/kinesthetic learner, this means that you are a "hands on" learner that needs to be physically active in your environment. Try sitting at the front of the classroom to keep your attention during a lecture.

If the learning styles questionnaire tells you that you are an auditory/verbal learner, this means that you like to listen to lectures and participate in group discussions. Try joining a study group or talking out loud to retain information.
