Anthropology Schools

Anthropology Schools provide for the study of humanity and cultural diversity. Anthropology depends on developmental theory and research to determine differences between world cultures. Anthropology depends chiefly on describing ethnic groups in field research, whereby the study of a culture is done from within community being studied. Anthropologists attempt to identify universal human cultural traits and ethics, and apply this knowledge to induce social change. Anthropology students gain insights into assessing own cultures with a new perspective.

Anthropology School, college, and university studies generally begin with basic courses in sociology and biology, after which students may choose areas of concentration in which to specialize. Anthropology studies can include understanding influences of historical and ancient cultures on present-day cultures; natures of large-scale modern day cultural systems versus smaller hometown cultures and small-scale isolated village cultures in remote areas of the world; or they can study evolving urban cultures, developing industrial cultures, business cultures, or cultures waning due to effects of modern technology.

Anthropology can include the study of migration, forensics, and social organizations; influences of geography on cultural behavior and beliefs; and anthropology of behavior and biology. Students may even choose anthropology museum work.

The study of cultural anthropology exposes students to various life styles, belief systems, and value systems that offer insights into their own cultures. Students may examine ways that cultures approach universal human challenges of ecology and subsistence; economy and politics; or religious and cultural evolution.

Archaeology differs from anthropology in that it studies the past. Archaeologists seek and study the material remains from past cultures and attempt to reconstruct cultural values, activities, and behavior. However, physical anthropologists examine the fossil evidence to understand how evolution has influenced human behavior and biology in modern populations, and how modern humans have adapted through time.
