Adult Education: How Adult College Education Helps

Adult education is a topic of interest to any adult who wonders if their current educational level is holding them back professionally.

Certainly education is just one criteria that hiring companies often use to compare job candidates.

As a recruiter, I can think of many cases where hiring managers – and in some cases entire companies – were stringent in terms of the educational requirements they were looking for in their "ideal" candidate.

In some cases, I've seen hiring managers and companies who will not hire people who don't meet minimum educational requirements.

I'm not talking about cases where a professional certification is required either. Certainly, if a company requires a professional engineer or certified accountant, then this is usually a fairly well-understood requirement. If you don't have the certification, you won't get the job.

I'm specifically talking about cases where a job is only available to candidates who (for example) hold a university or college degree.

Not a diploma either. A university or college degree.

In some cases, it doesn't even matter what degree the person holds, it could be any degree.

I've lost count of the number of times where a hiring manager has told me that they won't look at candidates who don’t hold a college degree.

Chances are you won't see a job description that says "don't bother applying if you don't have a college degree" but believe me, there are plenty of jobs you might be applying for that basically have that proviso even if it's not explicitly stated.
